Ros Jones

Flamboyant, festive and fabulous. Our favourite boneologist gives it her all, every time. Ms Ros (Bones) Jones co-founded the group and continues to contribute more than her fair share. Ros contributes a pleasant Eastern Europe colour to the group with Balkan, Klezmer, and Russian influences in addition to her playful mellow tone.

Ros has been playing around the Melbourne music scene for at least fifteen years in addition to an impressive list of local and international tours with several delectable ensembles. From traditional a brass band upbringing Ros moved auspiciously into a nefarious street band Croque Monsieur which has evolved with very long history into what is now known as the Tek Tek Ensemble. Playing on the street Ros was offered a part in the street theatre company ‘Five Angry Men’. This group toured to Europe and raised chaos in many Melbourne festivals. With the dark eastern European flavour of the Angry Men it was a natural progression into the Russian criminal stylings of Vulgargrad. One of many, a project of Ros’s creation “The Kurts” paid homage to the great Kurt Weill and captured listeners with an impeccable recreation of a beautiful sound. The list goes on and her contributions are endless. Ros is a composer, multi instrumentalist, performer, creator, festival musical director and educator.

Let the queen of slide take you for a spiritual ride.

Edward Fairlie

The smooth and sophisticated gentleman in the group. Ed is graceful and melodic at the same time as being a little rambunctious when it is needed.

Edward Fairlie has performed extensively both as a vocalist and trumpet player. He has toured with ARIA award winners Gotye and Julia Stone both nationally and overseas. Ed has performed with artists as diverse as Paul Kelly, CW Stoneking and Kamahl as well remaining an ongoing member of 1960’s inspired Bollywood group The Bombay Royale and indie rock group Canary, amongst many others.

As a composer, Edward has written for orchestra, wind band, big band, chamber ensembles and vocal groups. He has an original solo project which incorporates his vocal, piano and instrumental orchestration skills. Ed has now had three works published for wind ensemble.

Like all the Hoodoo players, Ed has good mix of cross genre influence and personality which blends perfectly.
